Torah shield
Bohemia (?)
18th century
Silver, cast, chased, engraved, and partly gilt
Hebrew inscription, on three plaques suspended from the shield, indicating that it was donated by Rabbi Meir, son of Joseph Katz, and his wife Hava, daughter of the late Nathan, in honor of their children
H: 27.9 cm
Gift of Charles Michael, San Francisco, to American Friends of the Israel Museum
Accession number: B13.0642 ; 148/307

Motifs on the shield include a part of hands in the gesture of Priestly Blessing, presumably a reference to the donors' identity (Katz is an anagram of kohen tzedek = righteous priest).
