Figurine of a drunken old woman clasping a lagynos (wine jar)
Late Hellenistic period, 100 BCE–100 CE
H: 10.1; W: 5.1 cm
Gift of Laurence and Wilma Tisch, New York, purchasers of the Dayan Collection
Accession number: 82.2.301
This small figurine is a cheap imitation of a marble statue from the Hellenistic period. The old woman’s posture, considered undignified by the Greeks, hints that she was of common stock.
