One day, Shah Khusrau told Rustam that an evil demon, Akvan, was wandering through his empire. Rustam sought out the demon and wrestled him for three days and nights. On the fourth day, Rustam grew weary and fell asleep. Akvan dug up the earth around Rustam, raised him above the sea, and flung him into the whirling waters. Rustam fought off the alligators that threatened to devour him and finally made it to shore.
