Women’s head ornament
Early 20th century
Cotton, silver coins
L: 82; W: 3 cm
Gift of Baroness Alix de Rothschild, Paris
Accession number: B72.0914
The coins sewn onto this head ornament date from the Hijra (Islamic) years 1299–1329, which correspond to 1881–1911. The six- and eight-sided star motifs featuring on the coins were prevalent throughout North Africa and the Islamic lands, and do not necessarily represent the Star of David.
