Yemima Ergas Vroman was born in Jerusalem in 1942. Her father was Akiva Vroman, a well-known geologist and Israel Prize recipient and her mother was the pianist, Gonny Vroman. In 1950 she and her family moved to Haifa. From 1962-1964 she lived on Kibbutz Netiv HaLamed Hey as part of her army service in Nahal. Her first art teachers were Sima Salonim and Rephael Muhar.
