Michal Helfman, an Israeli sculptor and installation artist, was born in Israel in 1973.
In her early works, Michal Helfman made use of motifs drawn from club parties in the 1990's, a world she was exposed to through her work as a party organizer at the "Ha'oman 17" club in Jerusalem. The relationship between the audience and the performer and motifs of transience and time appeared regularly in her works. In "Otoglida" (1999), for example, which she created together with Yigal Nizri, there is a vehicle which moved around Jerusalem and served as a makeshift recording studio.
During the 2000's her works emphasized romantic images of the landscape, using perishable meterials. In "Star Shine" (2003), for example, she created a luxurious environment made of material which simulated noble materials, and in the center there is the image of an archaic styled owl. This work criticized the post - modern Israeli culture.
