Nahum Tevet, Israeli, was born in 1946.
Nahum Tevet was born in 1946 on Kibbutz Mesilot to Mendel and Feiga Marin Toib. In his youth he studied art at the Oranim College of Education, where he studied with artists like Janco, Claire Yaniv and others. In the Six Day War he served as an officer in the armored corps in the Golan Heights. Afterward, he began studying art at the Avni Institute and with Rafi Lavie. Through him, Tevet made contact with a group of artists who had been his students and who were identified with the Arte Povera (literally poor art) school of art. In the 1980s he published art reviews in Ha'ir. In 2001 he founded Bezalel's Master in Fine Arts program. He lives and works in Tel Aviv-Yafo.
Tevet's early work, beginning in the 1970s, was influenced by modernist and minimalist art. It included the use of collage and other meager materials and contained an ars poetica dimension. In works such as “Arrangement of Six Units” or "Corner" (1973-1974) Tevet made use of improvised structures made of painted plywood, ranging from abstract shapes to useful objects. Since the 1980s, Tevet's work has become more complex. The wooden structures have become objects of a modernist urban landscape. The structures have been organized into a complex formation, with an inner logic, which looks different from every angle of observation. This arrangement examines the relationship between the work of art and the viewer. He lives and creates his art in Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
