Joseph Weiss, Israeli (born Romania), 1916-2003.
Joseph Weiss was born in Romania in 1916. He studied art and graphic design in Cluj. In 1939 he immigrated to Eretz Israel and joined Kibbutz Evron. After his aliyah, he participated in various seminars at Oranim Seminar and studied with Marcel Janco and Zvi Meirowitz. Although he was involved in painting and sculpture, he was famous for his woodcuts. His early prints were traditional in style. In the 1960s, he went on to create colorful, large-scale woodcuts whose subjects were mainly landscape descriptions and were influenced by abstract art. He also worked on both the reconstruction and construction of ancient instruments.
