Torah shield decorated with the Tablets of the Law
18th century
Artist: Mordecai Tzoref (?)
Silver, repoussé, engraved, punched, and set with semi-precious stones
Hebrew inscriptions: Tablets of the Law engraved with the ten Commandments. At top: "I am ever mindful of the Lord's presence" (Psalms 16:8). In cartouche below: "Abraham son of Moses, 5582 [1822] Mordecai Tzoref son of Z"C Hacohen." Between bases of pillars, an arched opening with turn-around disk is engraved with "Sabbath" and festival names.
