See the Sounds
Four weeks, 23 concerts: a new kind of Classical Music Festival in the Israel Museum galleries
Brahms brings Rubens’ goddess of love to life; the sound of psalms fills the Shrine of the Book, Mahler merges with Klimt’s life cycle. A festival of classical music, taking place in the Museum galleries, with leading ensembles, and international musicians and singers. Among the artists are Mahler’s Chamber Orchestra, the famous Jazz musician Ron Carter, Quatuor Danel from Brussels (performing the full 16 Beethoven quartets), Baritone David Adam Moore, and harpist Xavier de Maistre.
Performing masterpieces from different periods and in different styles; each performances is set in a specific gallery in tune with the concerts. A guided tour focuses on the correlation between the musical and the visual artworks; between the audible and the visible; between matter and spirit, leading the audience into the gallery. Daniel Kühnel, Festival Music Director, wove together works from different periods and in a variety of styles, reflecting European multi-cultural identity: church liturgy, works by 18th and 19th centuries masters, as well as experimental works of the 20th century.

New in the Collection: 2,500 years old Andean Textiles
A selection of exquisite, ancient Andean textiles, woven in complex techniques by Siguas, Wari, Chancay, and Inca peoples were recently added to the Art of the Americas collection.
These textiles, made in splendid weaving traditions, were used to define status, gender, and wealth of their owner, and were used for ritual purposes. Their different styles reveal the geographic, social, and cultural environment in which they were created.
